Community update – January 26, 2014

It is a busy time in Port Moody!

A few items for your information …

Port Moody budget:  A town hall budget meeting will be held tomorrow, Monday, January 27, 2014.  Earlier this week, the city hosted some ‘Council Cafe’ sessions, but MCCA did not receive notice in time to advise residents sooner.  The town hall details are:

When: Monday, January 27, 2014
Where: Inlet Theatre, 100 Newport Dr.
Time: Presentation starts at 7pm
For more information, see http://www.portmoody.ca/index.aspx?page=960

OCP update:  The draft Official Community Plan will not be back in full before council this Tuesday, January 28, 2014, as earlier anticipated.  However, you can check out other items on the agenda at http://www.portmoody.ca/modules/showdocument.aspx?documentid=6371.

Item 6.7 relates to the OCP; it is Metro Vancouver Staff Comments on Port Moody’s draft Regional Context Statement, and is 30 pages long.

MCCA:  Also in the agenda package for Tuesday are minutes from the prior meeting which include public input comments from John Grasty, long-time promoter of west Port Moody densification (“Westport”) in which he attacks the Moody Centre Community Association.  A response is posted on the MCCA website (click here):  Community Update – January 19, 2014

Schools:  School board OKs sale or lease of lands
“Four parcels of school-owned land in Coquitlam and Port Moody are one step closer to being sold and developed after school trustees voted Tuesday in favour of negotiating their sale.”  Article from The Tri-Cities Now:  (http://www.thenownews.com/opinion/school-board-oks-sale-or-lease-of-lands-1.792663)

The Vancouver Sun had an article this week about the Grandview Woodlands neighbourhood in Vancouver titled City proposes citizen’s assembly.  It is one of several Vancouver neighbourhoods asking the city for more consultation on neighbourhood plans.  You can find it on our website here:  In the news.

As always, we welcome your comments and input to MCCA.

Please feel free to forward this email.  Talk to your neighbours and friends.
