Evergreen Line Project Update — Alice emerges, completion delayed

On Friday, November 27, 2015, the tunnel boring machine named Alice emerged from a 2-kilometre tunnel running up Clarke Road (Snake Hill).

The tunnelling phase was extremely challenging, including having to deal with four sinkholes that appeared along the route.

Officials now expect the project will move ahead more smoothly.

The sinkholes and site remediation (including dewatering, injecting cement into the ground, and more) delayed the timeline for project completion. Originally, the line was expected to be up and running by summer 2016, but that estimate was revised to the fall of 2016. The new estimate is for sometime in the early part of 2017.
