Update:  The public hearing was postponed at the last minute due to an issue with the signage at the project site on St. George. The public hearing is now scheduled for May 24, 2016.

The public hearing will begin at 7:00 pm at city hall. Anyone wishing to comment can do so in person at the meeting and/or in writing to clerks@portmoody.ca by noon on May 10th. The public hearing material can be accessed at the city webpage here.

What MCCA has heard, in brief, is that townhomes are preferred over certain other infill options, as they’re seen as less disruptive to an existing neighbourhood and providing more sensitive, human-scale infill.

The general look of the townhomes, and the fact that (although small) some individual outdoor space is included, are overall positives.

We’ve also heard comments on the number of townhomes (12) proposed for two existing single-family lots. Some people feel the number should be less than six homes per existing lot. If every parcel designated in the OCP for upzoning from single-family to multi-family was proposed for this same type of infill, the cumulative effect would result in a six-fold population increase in a formerly single-family neighbourhood. Traffic, parking, park space per capita, etc., are important to consider with added density.
