A one and a half billion dollar plan to redevelop one of Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhoods has been approved by city council.
Mayor Gregor Robertson is talking about the construction of 11 high-rises on a 24-acre site in Oakridge providing close to three thousand new homes, including 290 social housing units.
“Oakridge is right for change. It’s time the sea of parking lots that were the city’s vision of the future in the 50′s is transformed into a big, green, complete community in the centre of Vancouver….a new downtown for south Vancouver.”
During public hearings, several speakers expressed concerns about property values dropping in the area and increased traffic along the Cambie corridor.
